Well, Howdy Do and Welcome to My Website. I'm so happy you're here!
I’m Rev. Deloris Marie Foster, Founder, Songwriter & Meditation Producer of Mountain Mama Soul Sister Roots, where sacred songs, legacy story songs, and spoken-word musical meditations are created to uplift the spirit, honor our roots, and remind us of the presence of the Good Lord within.
I’m just a country girl from the hills of West Virginia, all grown up now, but the memories of those hills have never left me. I still carry the sounds of faith, family, struggle, laughter, prayer, front porches, mountain roads, coal country, church songs, and the sacred stories of warm, simple, ordinary folks who lived with extraordinary strength.
Those roots are part of everything I create.
My life has taken me far beyond the hills, all the way to the “big city” lights, but it has never taken the hills out of me. Although I have served in public service, business, the ministry, storytelling, music, and writing, I still know the value of humble beginnings and good character. I have never forgotten the power of standing with dignity, purpose, and vision.
One of the deepest memories of my life came when I was only four years old. I was given a Sacred Vision that has followed me all of my life. I saw myself dressed in white, standing beneath a huge Oak tree with strong, powerful roots spreading deep and wide. I was speaking to a gathering of people from many races and walks of life. They were all smiling and happy.
That vision has never left my consciousness. It appeared to me three more times as an adult, and once in a dream to a man I hardly knew, who came to tell me about it. Now, I believe it is unfolding through Mountain Mama Soul Sister Roots — through songs, stories, memory, faith, sacred roots music, and spoken-word meditations.
Through this work, I am being allowed to speak to people’s hearts, honor their histories, preserve what should not be forgotten, awaken their spirits through Sacred Roots Meditations, and nurture their souls with Sacred Roots Music they may never have heard before.
Having been saved by the Power of God in my own life so many times, I know that prayer, the spoken word, music, and Sacred Vision can uplift the heart, strengthen the spirit, and transform lives. My creative work grows out of that knowing.
In my late twenties, I served more than five million people in Chicago and 114 surrounding communites as a County Commissioner insuring that their drinking water was not polluted. Helping to set and administer an annual budget of more than 800 million dollars per year, I helped to set policy for the third largest government in Illinois and gave policy direction to its more than 2,000 employees. Outnumbered 8 to 1 on a governmental board that was continuously riddled with scandal, I became a courageous fighter for justice and gained great respect among the citizens for knowledge and bravery.
That season of life tested me in ways I could never have imagined. I was outnumbered, opposed, and often attacked, but I studied, prayed, prepared myself, and stood on what I knew to be true. Again and again, when those in power came against me, I watched the Power of God make a way where there seemed to be none.
What began as a lonely fight became a season of courage, public truth, and divine protection. The very battles meant to silence me helped reveal my strength. Over time, the press and the people began to see that I was not standing alone. Some called me “Joan of Arc,” and one newspaper compared me to Zenobia, the great Queen of Palmyra.
This is why, among all the honors I have received through the years, the “Miracle-Minded” Master Award is the one I hold closest to my heart. It reflects the oneness with God and the higher state of consciousness I have sought to reach throughout my life.
To be “Miracle-Minded” is to believe that the impossible can be made possible through the Power of Almighty God working through us when we are in alignment with Spiritual Law. It is then that we are able to change lives, touch hearts, and even help change the course of history.
Many of our ancestors and loved ones have left us legacies that bear witness to this great truth.
All of my life, from as far back as I can remember, I have loved speaking, singing, storytelling, poetry, and writing. I helped put myself through college by writing success stories for a Fortune 500 company, and I have written two books available on Amazon.
Through the years, I have performed music and original stories on the main stage of such venues as the International Festival of Life, the Museum of Science and Industry, and the National Council of Negro Women’s Family Reunion Event at the Smithsonian Institution. I am also an Illinois Arts Council grant recipient for creating stories from African American spirituals, and have shared my work in libraries, schools, churches, and community events.
All of these experiences and more now flow into my work as a songwriter and producer. They help me listen deeply, recognize the heart of a story, shape meaningful words, and create songs that honor the people, memories, and histories entrusted to me.
Mountain Mama Soul Sister Roots brings together many parts of who I am: the minister, the storyteller, the West Virginia daughter, the songwriter, the producer, the businesswoman, the encourager, and the keeper of memory.
Through custom Legacy Songs, Family Story Songs, Sacred Roots Music, and spoken-word meditations, I help preserve personal, family, business, church, organizational, and Appalachian histories through music.
I believe every life carries a story. Every family carries memory. Every church, business, community, and hometown has a beginning, a struggle, a triumph, and a song waiting to be heard.
This work is more than music to me.
It is memory.
It is honor.
It is sacred storytelling.
It is a way to preserve what should not be forgotten.
At the center of my life and work is my greatest love—The Good Lord.
Everything I create flows from my desire to serve, uplift, encourage, and help preserve what is meaningful and sacred. Mountain Mama Soul Sister Roots is not just a business to me. It is a calling, a ministry of memory, and a way to use the gifts I have been given to help others honor the stories that matter most.
I invite you to listen to “My Greatest Love is the Lord,” a song from my heart that expresses the faith and devotion behind the work I do.
Thank you for visiting and learning more about me and Mountain Mama Soul Sister Roots.
